  String quilts have been made throughout American history to salvage small pieces of fabric during hard times, so this is a wonderful "green" technique. In this lecture, Anita will present samples of a large variety of string blocks and the countless ways to manipulate those blocks in quilt top design. She will also show how to use these wonderfully versatile blocks to make traditional and contemporary quilts.

Supplies:

* Sewing machine
* Iron
* Pressing pad
* Thread
* Pins
* Scissors
* Small ruler
* Pencil or pen

* 9 - 10" x 10" squares of muslin (or other background fabric)

* 9 - 2 1/2" squares of contrasting print fabric

* 36 - 2" squares of same contrasting print fabric. These will be folded and pressed into prairie points, which can be done before class.

* This does not include fabric for borders, binding, or backing.
